Firstco deliver London Underground cooling upgrades

13th October 2011

Firstco have successfully delivered a technically demanding project to replace the Tranche 1 Ventilation Controls system as part of London Underground's Power and Cooling Upgrades Directorate.

The Tranche 1 project consisted of retrofitting the control systems in five ventilation shafts. The controls within these shafts were originally delivered by three separate contractors, and CTP wished to bring these in line with the systems delivered by Firstco for the Tranche 2 and 3 contracts. Firstco acted as Principal Contractor, directly appointed to London Underground. The upgrade to the Tranche 1 Ventilation shafts means that LU now has a uniform control system for all upgraded Victoria Line ventilation shafts, all of which were delivered by Firstco.

The project involved development of the clear Requirements Statement from the client into a detailed design and delivery of the control system. Works included hardware design, software development, installation, testing and commissioning through final and handover and delivery into service. The completion of this project has met the vision of CTP by providing a common system architecture and unified head-end, displaying plant status monitoring and system reports.

Firstco delivered the project objectives on time, budget and in accordance with the client requirements. This was achieved by forging a collaborative working environment with the client team and by applying rigorous engineering and testing procedures developed during earlier stages of the project.
