North Terminal Landside Redevelopment

As part of an ongoing capital investment strategy, BAA undertook a major development project, the North Terminal Landside Redevelopment (NTLR).

Works were split into four sub projects:

  • North Terminal Extension: A multi-storey extension to the south and a single storey extension to the east of the terminal building to create greater wayfinding space and provide two new check in zones and new baggage claim belts.
  • North Terminal Interchange: A new inter-terminal transit system, car-park and forecourt interchange, replacing the existing inter-terminal transit station.
  • North Terminal Forecourt: Moving the existing forecourt away from terminal building to the opposite side of the NTI to improve security and provide a new improved forecourt for passengers. NTF changes were a result of Aviation Security in Airport Development (ASIAD) requirements.
  • Multi-Storey Car Park 6: A new car park next to the NTI, opposite car park 5.

This project was a significant investment for Gatwick Airport as it was an addition to ongoing capital works, in the middle of a divestment program to separate the airport from BAA and enable the sale and handover to new owners Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP).
